You have to be at least 65 years old or older to appreciate what I am now going to say, but when Reagan was shot, he could have been made President for Life, at least for the next couple of months.
Trump wasn’t about to let this moment slip by, however, without doing his best to maintain a dignified perspective on the whole affair by making the following statement: “In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win.”
Not that the MAGA crowd was all that quiet, with several of the red schmucks in Congress saying that Biden ‘ordered’ the shooting because he had made a campaign speech in which he said that Trump had to be the central focus of Democrat(ic) efforts, using a phrase about putting Trump in the ‘bullseye’ as proof that the assassination attempt was actually an execution ordered by him.
But if it turns out to be true that the gunman had an assault rifle like an AR-15 to use Trump for target practice, and if he bought the gun legally or otherwise had legal access to the weapon, the GOP is going to have a problem dealing with their long-standing opposition to another assault weapons ban, particularly because their opposition to such a law would be a perfect wedge issue for the Democrats to use in order…
