Are We Headed for the Collapse of Democracy?

Last night I watched the convention first on CNN where they were doing an interview with Nancy Pelosi, and then I switched to another DirecTV channel which was carrying everything directly from the speaker’s rostrum without any intervention by any correspondent at all.

Since the two speeches I watched were by two people whom I didn’t know and neither of them had all that much to say, I switched back for a couple of minutes to CNN where Nancy Pelosi was telling her questioners about whatever she wanted to tell them, and then I switched the whole thing off.

But just as I flipped away from the young woman who had been given her 15 minutes of fame before a national audience, I noticed she was holding up a copy of that nutty, game-plan published by the Heritage Foundation which is being described by our side as the roadmap that Donald Trump will follow to implement an ‘authoritarian’ regime.

Okay, so Trump’s no longer a Fascist, but he’s still a threat to democracy which means that the November election is not just the time when America has to choose between the Democrat(ic) Party and the GOP, it’s also the moment when the very existence of democracy will be at stake.
