Biden Does the Right Thing!
Over the course of human history, the existence of our species has been challenged by five threats: (1). Natural disasters, i.e., hurricanes, floods, or earthquakes, (2). pandemics, (3). famine, (4). global warming, and (5). violence.
We know what to do about natural disasters, pandemics, famine, and global warming. We may not always have the political or socio-cultural will to respond to these problems, but we know why they happen, so we know how to respond either proactively or after these threats to our existence occur.
When it comes to violence, on the other hand, we continue to be plagues by this particular phenomenon, and note incidentally, that in the Old Testament, Cain killed Abel long before Noah built his boat to protect us from a flood.
The earliest legal codes, which represent both the invention of literacy and the recognition that violence, if left unchecked, spelled disaster for the human community, were attempts to manage violence because these codes replaced feud with courts, police, and laws.
But even societies which have organized themselves to the degree that violence, if not eradicated at least is somewhat under control, still find themselves engaging in mass violence, up to and including obliterating entire cities by dropping an atomic bomb.
