Can Trump Capture the Minority Vote?
So, El Trump-o goes up to The Bronx and holds a campaign rally attended by a bunch of people who were probably hired to show up like the people who were paid to cheer his first Presidential announcement back in 2015, and now we have a new Fake News discussion about whether Joe and the Democrats are ‘losing’ the minority vote.
This latest gambit to make something out of nothing, politically speaking, was the result of the latest New York Times/Siena poll which found that support for Trump has jumped from 4% of the black respondents who voted for him in 2020 versus 23% who said they would vote for him today.
What the stories which covered this poll didn’t bother to mention is that in 2020, Trump received somewhere between 8% and 10% of the black vote, and his support among black men in some states went as high as twenty percent.
In other words, for all the talk about how this poll is designed to be ‘nationally representative’ of the population as a whole, it doesn’t reflect the reality of the actual black vote.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that current polls showing Biden not having the support he had in 2020 are wrong and that our side will end up controlling the Oval Office for another four years.
