Can Trump Voters Be That Dumb?
Every four years when the primary campaigns start up and the early polls are published, I delight in mentioning what I believe is the single, best piece of political satire ever written or published in the English language.
The piece was written by David Sedaris and appeared in The New Yorker Magazine a couple of months before the 2008 election when the pre-election polls showed that a substantial number of voters still hadn’t made up their minds between Obama and McCain.
And here is what Sedaris had to say about those undecided voters: “To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it? To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.”
Yesterday a new poll was released for Michigan which showed Trump and Biden tied at 44% apiece. The other 12% either were supporting someone else or hadn’t made up their minds.
How can anyone, any rational, normal human adult be undecided about voting for Biden as opposed to voting for Trump? How can the 4% of poll respondents who call themselves Democrats vote for Cornel West when those votes drag Joe’s total down below the total percentage for Trump?
