Can Trump’s Campaign Survive Until November 5th?

Back in 2021, I wrote a story about Donald Trump’s use of social media, and I said at that time he still had a better understanding of the value of social media for political communication than any other politician around.

This was just a month or so before Trump was permanently booted off of Twitter, and even though he was reinstated when Elon Musk bought the social media machine and renamed it X, Trump never had quite the same degree of social media presence from then until now.

When Trump was kicked off of Twitter, his account had 88 million followers, which was a number far above numbers attached to anyone else. At the most, his own social media site, Truth Social, has around 7 million subscribers, and while in theory those 80 million or so Trump followers on X might be willing to tune into him again, he has yet to post a single message on Elon Musk’s media machine.

But if you really want to understand what has happened to Trump’s social media experience, you might want to glance at this AlterNet story, which says that at least on paper, Trump’s Truth Social site is worth $800 million less than it was worth ten days ago, which happens to be the day when Joe pulled out of the 2024 Presidential campaign and Kamala jumped in.
