Democrats vs. Republicans: Is That a Choice?

A new poll from Gallup appears to hold some disquieting news for our side in the current electoral environment. The poll, run monthly, tracks party affiliation and has the percentage of respondents who describe themselves as Democrats at 23 percent, the lowest number since 2004.

The same poll has respondents who say they are Republicans at 25% and Independents at 51%.

In January, 2004, the first poll in this series had Democrats at 28%, Republicans at 32% and the warm dog shit with cut glass group at 40%. If you’ve been reading me over the last several years, you’ll know that my reference to dog poo-poo is a remarkable satire about ‘undecided voters’ published by David Sedaris in 2008.

By the way, the story about the Gallup poll was published in Newsweek, which referred to the Democratic number as ‘plunging’ to a new low.

In fact, back in April this same poll had the Democratic affiliated number at 25% and the GOP at 27%. That’s some plunge, okay?

But what the fuck, the headline got me to look at the story as well as at the ads which surrounded the story on the Newsweek page.
