Did the Court Just Hand Trump a Big Win?

Don’t look now, but if the Democrats and Joe Biden’s campaign team don’t fuck the whole thing up (which they are certainly capable of doing) the Supreme Court has just handed our side a potentially winnable narrative to use in November, certainly better than equal to the ‘demented Joe’ mantra which is already beginning to sound and smell a little stale.

I’m referring, of course, to the Court’s decision today which granted Trump a partial immunity from being charged with crimes which he allegedly committed while he was President, the idea being that certain decisions could be considered to be crimes, were it not for the case that they were taken by Trump as ‘official acts’ during his tenure behind the real Resolute desk.

The operative criteria utilized by the 6–3 majority in their decision as to what can and cannot be maintained and used in criminal cases against Trump can be found in Paragraph A(2) of the decision which reads: “Not all of the President’s official acts fall within his “conclusive and preclusive” authority. The reasons that justify the President’s absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for acts within the scope of his exclusive constitutional authority do not extend to conduct in areas where his authority is shared with Congress.”
