Do We Always Have to Listen to Trump?
I don’t know exactly how to put this, but if someone makes a statement which is totally and patently false, is the news media obligated to report it?
Or if they do report such false statements, shouldn’t they at least make it clear that readers or listeners need to be mindful that they are being given misinformation at best, and perhaps dangerous misinformation at worst?
I use the term ‘dangerous misinformation’ in an objective way, because many of the individuals who attempted to storm the Capitol in 2021 and prevent the election certification by the Senate on January 6th, were motivated by sincere and honestly held beliefs that without their intervention, Mike Pence was going to lead the Senate into certifying an election which should never have taken place.
And I note, by the way, that Trump’s up to his old tricks again, having put a message on his (failing) Truth Social website this past Saturday that he will accept the results of this year’s election except he knows that the Democrats, in connivance with lawyers and ‘corrupt public officials’ are already making plans to steal this year’s election again.
In other words, Trump will accept the results on November 5th if he wins. Which is basically putting him squarely back to where he was in the runup to the election four years ago.
