Do We Learn Anything from the Internet?

By now, everyone has probably had their fill of the story about a 42-year old Deloitte account executive, a black guy born in Texas who drove his truck into a crowd celebrating the new year in New Orleans, killed 15 people, wounded 30 others and then was shot down by the cops.

The authorities have called this tragic situation a ‘terror attack’ because the guy’s truck had an ISIS flag and was loaded with explosives — so much for the nonsense being promoted by the gun-control crowd that we can end gun violence by spotting the shooters and taking their guns away before they start shooting.

This guy not only was coming to work every day in normal fashion, but he even left an email on his computer saying that he planned to be back at his desk on January 2nd.

But not to worry, because even if the driver was just some nut job who decided to make a name for himself by committing an act of mass violence which has become a trademarked form of American behavior, we can always count on our alt-right friends to use social media to promote whatever stupid and false ideas they believe their audience wants to hear.

In this respect, we can lead off with Donald Trump, who took an erroneous report from Fox News about how the truck used in the assault had just come into the country from Mexico to declare that the…
