Do We Need a Speaker of the House?
As far as I’m concerned, what happened today in Washington brings us one step closer to what has always been my most fervent wish about politics in America, namely, the disappearance of the Republic(an) Party and let the Democrat(ic) Party split into two groups. One group can be the people who call themselves ‘progressives,’ whether they know what that word means or not, and the other group can be the mainstream Democrats, headed by someone like Joe.
As for people who vote for the GOP, they can either support the mainstream Democrats or they can form some white, Evangelical party which gets listed in some of the dumb states but won’t have any impact on what goes on in national politics every day.
In 2024 the white Evangelicals can vote for Trump even if he’s in jail. The remaining GOP voters can either vote for Joe or stay the fuck home. Are we creating some kind of problem by getting rid of a national political party which promotes an agenda which would take country back to 1955?
What I love is how Matt Gaetz made a final speech in the House before the vote to dump McCarthy and tried to come across as a champion of honest government, complete with demands for ending ‘back-room deals’ and repairing an economy which, according to him, is ‘robbing’ the average American of the slightest chance of getting ahead.
