Do We Need All Those Federal Employees?

Yesterday I watched about 15 minutes of the back-and-forth between RFK, Jr. and Bern Sanders during RFK’s appearance pursuant to being nominated by Trump to head HHS, which includes control over the CDC.

RFK’s performance was pathetic, and I can’t imagine that if his nomination’s approved, he’ll even show up most days or when he does show up he’ll even know the name of the federal agency of which he will be in charge.

At the same time that RFK was stumbling and bumbling his way through some questions about his opposition to vaccines, his possible boss, a.k.a., Donald Trump, released a plan to offer more than 2 million federal employees an eight-month severance deal if they’ll announce their intention to quit.

Not surprisingly, this effort to clean out the ‘deep state’ was greeted with huzzahs from the GOP-MAGA gang, versus scorn from the groups which promote the concept of ‘big government’ in D.C.

At the same time that I had Bernie and RFK on my TV, I also happened to be reading the results of a research project funded by the CDC, a study of how participants in 4-H clubs think about efforts to reduce unintentional injuries from guns, and what could be done to make interventions about gun safety more effective at these clubs and other sites.
