Do We Need the GOP?

So, yesterday Steve Scalise is trotted out by the GOP to start revving up the 2024 campaign and is interviewed by George Stephanopoulos on ABC. And what important question is he asked? He’s asked to state whether the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.

How does Scalise answer this question when the guy who’s leading the GOP primary field by more than 30 points is still saying that the 2020 election was hijacked from him?

He doesn’t answer the question, mumbling something instead about how he’s looking towards the future and isn’t interested in the past.

So, Stephanopoulos repeats the question again and Scalise mumbles something about the future and the past again.

The day that Trump makes a plea deal which includes dropping out of the 2024 race is the day the GOP can finally stop worrying about what they should say about the results of the 2020 Presidential vote.

And this moment will mark an especially important, indeed unprecedented moment for the GOP, because in the party’s history over the past century or so, it will be the first time the GOP begins to define itself as being in favor of what we should do going forward instead of what we should have done in the past.
