Do We Need to Pay Attention to RFK, Jr?
Any time that someone says that they don’t believe in vaccinations, I write them off as a jerk, or a dope, or both. Which is why I have paid absolutely no attention at all to RFK, Jr., who I am convinced is only given the slightest degree of polite attention by the Fake News because he’s you-know-whose son.
But this morning my sister sent me an interesting op-ed about how Trump’s campaign team is taking a serious look at his candidacy because they believe that if RFK ran as a third-party candidate, that he would pose a greater threat to Orange Shithead than to Joe. Hmmm…
And by the way, if someone has enough money to get on the Presidential ballot in 50 states and can utilize social media to promote a campaign, the impact of a third-party effort shouldn’t simply be dismissed as a pie-in-the-sky attempt by someone to get noticed by the Fake News.
After all, Ross Perot’s 1992 campaign resulted in Clinton not receiving a majority of the popular vote in any state except Arkansas; the 97,000 votes that Ralph Nader received in Florida for the 2000 election could have given the state to Gore instead of Bush. And in the current political alignment in which every national election will be determined by what happens in a handful of states — who knows?
So, to get a sense of what RFK is all about, I went to his campaign website and watched the six very professional videos which lay out his views on the economy, the border, the environment, health, religion and foreign policy…
