Does Anyone Know What’s Going On in Gaza?

I have just finished reading a chapter in William Shirer’s The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, which given what’s going on in Gaza, scared the living sh*t out of me.

Shirer was the CBS correspondent in Berlin from 1925 until he had to leave Germany when World War II began. He was fluent in German, and every night would keep up a copious private journal covering that day’s events.

Following the war’s end, Shirer combined his detailed notes with the secret government archives we captured and brought back from Germany, along with detailed transcripts of the Nuremberg trials, all of which he used to write a brilliant history of the Third Reich which became an international best-seller after it appeared in 1959.

The chapter I just finished covered in great detail the events surrounding the infamous 1938 Munich agreement which was supposed to guarantee ‘peace in our time’ but did nothing except embolden Hitler to step up his plans to expand Germany through the use of armed force.

The Munich meeting involved the heads of state of four countries — France, England, Italy and Germany, the idea being that France and England would accept Hitler’s demand to carve up Czechoslovakia which would redress part of the territory and population taken away from Germany in the Treaty of Versailles.
