Does the GOP Know Anything About Government?
I love how the digital echo chamber is actually taking seriously the idea that those two shitheads, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are going to cut government ‘waste,’ when the only thing they will try to do is cut down on how much money the government spends on taking care of the poor.
The idea that the government, not the private sector, is responsible for responding to situations when the for-profit economy doesn’t distribute munificence equally and some of us get more and some of us get less, is what first began to define the role of government when a lot of people started getting less rather than more to which FDR and those other socialists responded with the New Deal in 1933.
Four years earlier, when the national economy was rolling along and famine hadn’t yet begun to appear in some of the Dust Bowl states, Herbert Hoover ran his Presidential campaign using the slogan, “a chicken in every pot.”
Hoover was elected in 1928, but he lost his re-election bid in 1932 because all of a sudden, nobody could pay for a chicken, and if you were sitting in a shantytown because the local bank had closed down and you were thrown out of your home, you didn’t even have a pot to use for cooking dinner.
