As I have mentioned in several previous stories, I am in the process of writing a full-length book about the internet that will update and revise what Marshall McLuhan said more than sixty years ago about TV.

In that regard, last night I had two rather remarkable experiences sitting in front of first my computer monitor and then moving over to the couch and turning on the TV.

First, I watched about 10 minutes of the NFL game between Kansas City and the Steelers, and later learned that according to Nielsen, I was one of some 65 million Americans who watched all or part of one or both games.

If those Nielsen numbers are correct, and there’s really no reason to believe that they’re wrong, this means that one out of every five people living in the United States spent some part of their Christmas glued to their digital tubes.

Now let’s remember that 8% of the population is 8 y/o or younger, and if some of this group was looking at a computer screen, it was some kids’ game that they like to play.

There’s also somewhere around 10% of the population which isn78 y/o and even older (like me.) Probably half of that bunch were asleep by the time that Netflix began to stream these games.
