Does Trump Have to Obey the Law?
I was born and raised in Washington, D.C. My birth year was 1944. My best friend was Judy Plotkin, whose father, Harry Plotkin, was a founding member of what is today the D.C. firm of ArentFox Schiff, which is one of the largest and most noted firm in a city of large and noted law firms.
Judy also became an attorney but didn’t want to practice corporate law. Instead, she became a government attorney with the Department of Commerce and eventually headed the team which write the warning messages on cigarette packs.
At one point during the Reagan Administration, I happened to be in Washington for a meeting, and I made a date to meet Judy for lunch. At the time we met, Reagan was making his standard threats about cutting back the size of the federal government, so I asked Judy whether she had any concerns about the security of her government job.
She laughed and here was her response: “Mike, they can’t fire me because the government is run by lawyers. It’s a government of laws, remember?”
I thought of Judy’s comment last week when two federal judges in two separate federal courts effectively told Trump and his asshole buddy, Elon Musk, to take their DOGE nonsense and go straight to Hell.
When was the last time that a President announced a major strategy for how to run the Executive branch…
