Does Trump or Joe Know Anything About the Economy?

I just happened to watch a snippet of a video where Donald Trump is talking about imposing tariffs on all essential goods coming out of China which, according to him, will bring economic activity back to the United States.

I’m not sure if Trump knows anything about how the national economy actually works, but it’s not as if we get any reliable information from anyone else in that respect.

I have been hearing all the noise about the different plans that Joe and Trump have for the economy, but other than some vague comments here and there about increasing American manufacturing capacity, what seems to be what powers the economy is how much money consumers spend on whatever they buy in a store to take home.

When I joined the consumer population in 1971 concurrent with getting my first full-time job, the consumer goods my wife and I purchased were food, diapers and other small crap for the baby, clothing so that I could look like a mensch when I went to work and a used car which set me back $500 bucks.

We ate out once every couple of weeks at a local joint or took out Chinese food. My paycheck had a deduction for medical care, but I didn’t start going for annual checkups for another 15 or so years.
