Gun Owners Are Fascists, Right?
The group led by Garen Wintemute which does research on guns at the University of California Davis campus has recently released a national survey of some 7,200 individuals, half claiming to be Republicans, of whom 15% were classified as being MAGA Republicans because they voted for Donald Trump and felt that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
The other Republican respondents, roughly one-third of the entire sample, were classified either as ‘strong’ Republicans or just Republicans. In other words, 48% of this so-called ‘nationally representative’ population s=identified themselves as being Republicans, which is more or less the percentage of voters who voted the GOP line in 2020.
Now, here’s where the shit really gets serious, or at least serious enough for the Davis research group to ring some alarm bells.
When asked whether violent behavior could be justified, the MAGA group responded more positively than other Republicans to this question in a general sense but were also more willing to support political violence for such specific political issues as border security, preventing voter intimidation and defending the police.
By the way, talk is cheap, because less than 5% of any if the Republican groups, including the MAGA bunch, said they would actively participate in a situation where violence might be used…
