How Come All Those Rich Guys Are Right-Wing?
So, according to Forbes, the stock that Donald Trump holds in the company which owns and operates his Truth Social website now gives him a net worth of some $3.5 billion bucks.
Now that doesn’t put him up there with Elon Musk, whose net worth is estimated at somewhere above five billion bucks, but It’s not bad for a guy who started off working summers at his father’s construction sites in Queens.
Which brings me to the question that these net worth numbers want me to answer, namely, why is it that most of the really rich guys whose money gets them media headlines almost every day are also guys who happen to be, politically speaking, right wing?
There are exceptions, of course, such as Bill Gates, whose foundation supports all kinds of worthy liberal causes like clean water and better public health in various shithole locations overseas. For that matter, Mike Bloomberg is another fat cat who spends a lot of his dough trying to get us to exercise more frequently and lead more healthful lives.
But it’s one thing to promote healthy eating, which is all about how people make a personal choice for extending their lives. It’s quite another to use the extensive power and financial wherewithal of government to shrink the gap between the rich and the poor, and I don’t see any of the so-called…
