How Come Old People Like Trump?

Every once in a while I’ll stop in at the Mickey Ds near me for breakfast, and I’ll sit there drinking my coffee eating my breakfast burrito or my sausage biscuit with cheese. Nearby where I sit there’s a group of oldsters who are kind of like a breakfast club because they evidently get together every morning to shoot the shit and drink coffee for 50 cents a cup plus the refill is free.

From what I can tell from the conversation, these folks are all long retired but living quite well. The own their homes, they drive new cars, they seem to be in fairly good health, and they don’t appear to be having problems with their kids or grandkids.

What do they talk about? They don’t talk — they complain. Everything’s no goddamn good. This costs too much, that doesn’t work, the social security COLA wasn’t enough, and someone had to call the Governor’s office twenty times to get her state tax refund, which amounted to a whole, big $57 bucks and change.

You would think that given the fact that every one of these folks has lived far beyond the year they were supposed to die when they were born and they all seem to be in pretty good health, that they would not only be happy about being alive but would discuss their lives with good humor and grace.
