How Do We End Gun Violence?
So, yesterday I received a frantic email from a gun-control organization warning me about a piece of legislation which is being introduced in Congress that would effectively let anyone with a license granting concealed-carry permission in one state to be valid in all states.
The law, if passed, would effectively create an armed, civilian population who could go anywhere with a concealed weapon, making this a real ‘threat’ to peace and security throughout the United States.
Now granted, we do have a serious gun violence problem in this country, with more than 100,000 fatal and non-fatal but serious injuries caused every year by people shooting other people with their guns.
In fact, no other advanced country experiences even a fraction of the fatal and non-fatal gun assaults that occur every year in the United States, nor does the population of any other advanced country have the 300 million or maybe 400 million guns lying around that are lying around in the United States.
And obviously, if we let everyone who has the legal right to own a gun also have the legal right to carry a gun on their person no matter where they go, isn’t this going to make gun violence an even more serious problem in the years to come?
