How Do We Explain Rudy Giuliani’s Collapse?
One of the favorite parlor games played by various Fake News pundits is to try and figure out how and why Rudy Giuliani has gone from having been one of the most effective federal prosecutors of all time and an inspiring public figure after 9–11 to a bankrupt, almost homeless laughing-stock figure on late-night TV.
Stop and think about it, okay? Here’s a guy who broke up all five Mafia families in New York and put some of Wall Street’s biggest scammers in jail. Then he becomes the Mayor of New York City and plays a central role in how the city responded to the Twin Towers collapse, to the point that he could have spent the rest of his life just going around the world making speeches and collecting nice public-appearance fees.
What does he do instead? He first does what other New York City mayors have done, which is he runs for a higher political office and loses, which is also what has happened to every other New York City mayor who tried to cash in politically on their tenure in City Hall.
Then Rudy gets himself involved with Donald Trump and things really start to go South. After a stint as Trump’s ‘personal attorney’ he makes a fool of himself by going over to Ukraine to dig up dirt on Biden, which results in Trump getting impeached.
