How Do We Explain ‘Stop the Steal?’ We Can’t.

It will be at least another year before all the court cases draw to a close, but at some point I’m going to have enough information, courtroom testimonies and media interviews to write a new script for The Lavender Hill Mob. This was a 1951 movie starring Alec Guinness in which he plays a clerk at the Bank of England who comes up with a scheme to steal a truckload of gold bullion which his gang melts down, then turns the liquid gold into Eiffel Tower replicas to sell to British tourists coming back from France.

Of course, the gang members are nothing but a bunch of bumbling fools, and the whole scheme collapses because they make one, stupid mistake. In the final scene, Guinness is sitting at a table drinking a Perrier and waiting to be carted off to jail.

Every time I look at the photo (above) of that crazy press conference held by Rudy Giuliani in front of the landscaping company in North Philadelphia two days after the 2020 election was called for Joe, I just can’t believe that someone hasn’t taken a video of that bizarre event and used it to make another a new version of The Lavender Hill Mob. The update could be called I Didn’t Lose The Election, which Trump continues to declare virtually every chance he gets.
