Is Anti-Semitism and Anti-Israel the Same Thing?

Today I was driving around a circle off of an I-91 exit and I drove past a demonstration of at least one hundred people who were holding up Palestinian flags and placards calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza, a withdrawal of Israeli troops and — ready? — signs prominently announcing that the demonstrators were ‘Jews’ from several nearby towns.

What struck me about this demonstration was the very public message that the demand for a ceasefire in Gaza was being voiced by Jews.

From the daily news reports both in print and video media, you could be led to believe that demonstrations calling for an end to the IDF incursion into Gaza was the handiwork of various individuals and groups who have been looking for an excuse to promote open anti-Semitism which has been a no-no in the United States for at least the past fifty years.

In fact, I remember being both shocked and surprised when I was watching a college football game at the University of Indiana in 1962 and at halftime the Indiana marching band struck up a rousing version of the theme song for the movie ‘Exodus,’ which was an enormous hit after it was released in 1961.

Fine — a movie about the founding of Israel playing to crowds in New York City was something I would expect. But the football crowd in Bloomington, Indiana…
