Is Health Care a Government Problem?
Ever since Obama’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) became law in 2010, the GOP has been trying to get rid of it or at least change it in ways that will make the word ‘affordable’ more or less disappear.
This is hardly the first time the Republic(an) Party has tried to keep the government from getting involved in keeping the country’s population safe and sound.
The Social Security Act was signed into law by FDR in 1935, and the last attempt to prevent the program from getting started was finally thrown out by the courts in 1949.
So, fourteen years to fight against social security, fifteen years to fight against the ACA. If nothing else, the Republic(an)s are pretty consistent when it comes to how long they try to prevent Americans from using the government to get social programs they want and need.
But maybe the GOP knows something that we don’t know, because if the government stops giving people money to pay for their health insurance, then maybe everyone will realize that it’s their personal responsibility to keep themselves from getting sick.
After all, isn’t personal responsibility what the contest between Democrats and Republic(an)s is really all about?
