Is There Any Truth to the Trump Campaign?
I used to think the whole point of being a candidate in a political campaign was to tell the voters why they should vote for you instead of voting for the other guy (or girl.) Which basically meant stating your ideas about various policies and maybe throwing in a comment or two about something your opponent said or did.
But the bottom line was that the people who showed up to listen to you give a speech during an election campaign either wanted to know how you would vote on this or that issue, or already liked the way you voted and wanted you to keep doing the same thing.
That was then, this is now. And when it comes to the now of the 2024 campaign, Donald Trump has stood that whole approach on its head.
Not only does Trump avoid talking about issues of any substance when he goes on for an hour or more at one of his rallies, but what he says is either totally false or has no real meaning at all.
Here’s a comment Trump made at a rally this past weekend in Schnecksville, PA: “Gettysburg, what an unbelievable battle that was. It was so much, and so interesting, and so vicious and horrible, and so beautiful in so many different ways — it represented such a big portion of the success of this country.”
