Is There Any Truth to the Trump Campaign?

I used to think the whole point of being a candidate in a political campaign was to tell the voters why they should vote for you instead of voting for the other guy (or girl.) Which basically meant stating your ideas about various policies and maybe throwing in a comment or two about something your opponent said or did.
