Now Donald Trump Has Become a Champion of Free Speech?

So, yesterday afternoon I tuned into the afternoon Rush Limbaugh wannabee on the local AM talk-radio station that carries all those schmucks, and I hear a discussion between the so-called program host and a listener who has called into the station to shoot off his mouth.

And what were they talking about? Ready? Sitting down?

These two putzes were actually discussing the fact (their word, not mine) that the Right has now taken over a task which used to be owned by the Left. And not only has the Right become the standard-bearer for attitudes, discussions, and activities to run this important issue up the flagpole and give it a 21-gun salute but — ready? — the entire project is being run by — ready again? — Donald Trump!

That’s right. The head of Maga Nation (it’s no longer a movement, now it’s a nation) is protecting our God-given freedoms like nobody else, in particular -ready again? — the freedom to say whatever we want, i.e., ‘right’ of free speech.

And what was the proof offered to back up this preposterous and absolutely inconceivable claim? The ‘fact’ that Trump has been targeted by the legal system ‘weaponized’ by Joe, or maybe by Barack because Joe is too old and too addled to know what’s going on.

How is America’s leading champion of 1st-Ameendment rights being targeted by the Left? He has been sanctioned with a gag order by the ‘hush money’ judge in New York. And every time Trump says what he knows to be true about the corrupt legal system being used by a corrupt judge backed up by a corrupt President to prevent him from regaining his seat behind the real Resolute desk, he’ll get hit with another ten-day jail sentence and another thousand-dollar fine.

The gag order says that Trump is not allowed to discuss publicly either the witnesses or the jurors involved in this case. Meanwhile, Trump has slammed Michael Cohen repeatedly on his Truth Social site, even though Cohen is listed as a witness in this case.

Trump’s excuse for violating the gag order, as explained to the judge by one of his attorneys, is that Trump was simply responding to ‘political attacks’ made by Cohen against him, and political talk is always protected by the 1st Amendment’s ‘right’ to engage in free speech.

But when Judge Merchan asked Trump’s attorney to cite anything Cohen has said in the trial so far which could be described as a political attack, the attorney did exactly what Trump is supposed to be doing, namely, he shut his mouth.

So, now we have these two schmucks on the AM talk-radio station who are declaring that Trump is leading a National Nation in protecting and preserving the ‘right’ to free speech, except either they didn’t bother to read what was said in court or they didn’t really care.

And to be honest, the last thing I would expect from someone trying to promote himself as the heir-apparent to Rush Limbaugh in AM talk radio, would be anything even remotely close to either the real facts or the truth.

The whole point of the 1st-Amendment guarantee of free speech, is not to protect anything that anyone says, but to protect the right to say something which isn’t popular and goes against the grain. Twenty or thirty years ago, sitting down in the employee’s lunchroom and saying you were in favor of gay marriage might get you thrown off that job. Ditto if you said that gays and lesbians deserved the same respect in the workplace accorded to straight women and straight guys.

You wouldn’t have heard Donald Trump saying such things if he walked into the lunchroom back then, and you wouldn’t hear him say it now.

Remember how he laughed and said, ‘Where’s my Negro?’ at a 2016 California campaign stop and then laughed and said it again?
