So, now that Trump has announced that he’s going to demolish various parts of he federal government, particularly those agencies and programs what promote anything having to do with what liberals believe the government should do, we get suggestions for dismantling the favorite alt-right government targets, of which the most favorite target is the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Agency, a.k.a., the ATF,

This most hated example of federal authority was originally the agency which collected excise taxes on various products, which was how the federal government financed itself until that hated liberal, FDR, enacted the first, serious federal income tax when he instituted the New Deal.

The ATF operated within the Treasury Department, which it still does, but in 1968 its purview was changed, and it became the government program which regulates the gun business at the federal level thanks to the comprehensive gun-control law (GCA68) passed that same year.

The ATF has thus become the whipping-boy for every asshole politician who wants Americans to agree with the National Rifle Association that the 2nd Amendment is America’s first civil rights law ands needs to be protected in the same way that we protect our other basic freedoms, like freedom of religion and freedom of speech.
