Back when I was in High School, I first began thinking about what kind of career I wanted to follow, because that decision would obviously play an important role in helping me figure out where I wanted to go to college and what I would study for my college degree.

I knew that my choice lay between business, or whatever called the ‘private sector,’ versus working in what we called the ‘public sector,’ which meant a job in government or with some organization which delivered social services to people in need.

The former career would pay a lot more money, but the latter would probably be more rewarding in a meaningfully personal sense. As it turned out, over the course of my working life I was engaged in both types of work, and I always knew the differences between one which fed the wallet, and the other which fed the soul.

Now please hold that thought, okay?

Back in 2015, when Trump announced his intention to run for President, I happened to be writing a weekly editorial about guns and gun violence for Huffington Post. I started writing for Huffington in 2013, shortly after Sandy Hook, and I would contribute a weekly story to the magazine until Huffington changed its format and moved to reportage in 2018.
