Sooner or Later, Trump Will Say What Everyone’s Waiting for Him to Say.
For the first time since 1854 when it was founded, the GOP is going to promote a basic campaign narrative based on pure and simple racism — nothing more, nothing less. And the narrative is going to be the message stated and restated by Donald Trump every chance he gets. And that’s because Trump has nothing else to run on, and his so-called ‘base’ has been waiting and hoping for this messaging since he first started campaigning in 2015.
I first heard this racist bullshit when a guy walked into my gun shop after the Democrats won some election in Vermont or New Hampshire and told me that the reason ‘they’ won is because ‘they bus all these people up from Boston who are paid to go and vote.’
Know who ‘they’ are? Know who ‘these people’ are?
Until Trump came along, the GOP used various euphemisms and code words to disguise their racism, or at least make racism palatable to the mainstream TV media and press. They talked about ‘states’ rights’ (Goldwater’s phrase) or ‘law and order’ (Nixon’s words) because you couldn’t use the n-word in polite conversation unless you were a rock singer who was black.
