The term ‘Fascist’ first appeared in Europe after World War I. It meant a government which did not hold elections, regimented society by creating para-military organizations that everyone was forced to join, and physical suppression of political opponents.
Now maybe Trump’ ‘stop the steal’ represented some kind of attempt to invalidate our federal election process but even there, for the most part his efforts took the form of lawyers going into functioning courts, which meant a tacit acceptance of our basic political structures. As for creating regimented organizations as a way of controlling the civilian population, Trump did nothing of the kind. And while he insulted and verbally demeaned all his political opponents, I don’t recall Nancy Pelosi ever getting hit over the head.
You say ‘without this grasp of history’s importance…” the least you could do is refer to history as it really occurred, not as you want people to think about current events. I’m totally and completely anti-Trump. Make no mistake about it. But I’m also against using words to describe a present-day situation which robs those words of what they really meant in the past.
