Anyone who wants to believe that Donald Trump’s victory on November 5th will be a walkaway doesn’t really understand how the Presidential election will or will not necessarily turn on Joe’s decision yesterday to drop out.

Because if I have learned one thing from being a close and at least somewhat informed observer of politics since I voted for the first time in 1968, with the exception of maybe one or two electoral contests over the last fifty-plus years, the real campaigns only get started after Labor Day, because prior to the first weekend in September, nothing can really compete with the beach.

Furthermore, and you might think I’m just whistling Dixie to keep my Democrat(ic) dreams alive, but Trump hasn’t shown himself to be all that strong either as a candidate for himself or in terms of his coattail effects.

I happened to work for that campaign, not as a volunteer but as a member of the paid staff, my assigned task to compose the social media narratives, voice, and text, which could be used to respond to anything that the other side said about guns.

To say the management of her campaign was chaotic and totally out of control would be to give the campaign…
