What Are the Issues in the 2024 Campaign?

Maybe I’m missing something, or maybe I’m just plain wrong, but I have been following politics since 1960, and I don’t remember another Presidential election which was as devoid of any real issues the current campaign.

The usual and accepted narrative about what motivates voters to vote one way or the other is either the country is involved in a war, or the national economy is for shit, or maybe something comes along like Covid-19, and everyone get scared or at least worried about who should be in charge and what kind of decision that person will make.

What’s the big issue on which Americans will make their opinions known by how they vote in just less than five months? Joe is talking about the importance of ‘democracy’ and how his opponent doesn’t seem to understand why we landed on Omaha Beach on June 6th, 1944, in order to save Western Europe from aa threat to democracy which seems to be emerging again.

What’s Trump going to do if he steals enough votes in November to get his fat ass onto the chair behind the real Resolute desk again? Is he going to sign an Executive Order that abolishes Congress? Is he going to tell the Supreme Court that from now on they can get together and chat about one thing or another while sitting in a Quonset hut on the Mall?
