What Happened and Didn’t Happen in Buffalo.

So, last week an 18-year-old kid, Payton Gendron, drives four hours from his home in Conklin, NY to a Black neighborhood in Buffalo, walks through a supermarket parking lot and starts banging away with an AR-15. By the time he gets done shooting people outside and inside the store, the toll is ten dead and three wounded, and then he gives himself up.

Before the shooting, the kid posted a 180-page manifesto on the internet that was quickly taken down. But you can read it here.

Don’t waste your time. It’s the usual mish-mash of racism, stupidity and self-aggrandizement summed up this way: “I am simply a White man seeking to protect and serve my community, my people, my culture, and my race.”

And the way he’s going to protect his race is to drive to Buffalo, shoot and kill as many Black folks as he can, then go off to jail for the rest of his life.

He reminds me of another mass shooter who was trying to protect the White residents of his country when he shot and killed 77 people at an island holiday retreat off the coast of Norway. I’m talking about Anders Breivik who published a 1,500-page manifesto that you can also read here.
