What If Trump’s Around for Another Four Years?

The other day I received a note from a reader which I’m going to quote here in full:

“I know Mike keeps saying that Trump has no way to win but I want to disagree with him. I think it’s a cakewalk because what other nominee gets so much free air time. No wonder he doesn’t need to spend any money on real campaigning when the MSM gives him boatloads hours of free publicity. They have normalized his aberrant (possibly dementia) behavior. All in the name of getting more eyeballs and clicks. I’ve gotten to the point that I just want him to get elected so we can get past it. We as a country dug this grave, maybe it’s time to lay down in it for a while to see how it feels…”

So, this lively and intelligent comment got me thinking about the idea of having Trump in the Oval Office for four more years, and the more I think about it, the more I think that hey, maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad idea and might even help us build a more responsive and effective Democrat(ic) Party over the same period of time.

Because if Joe wins a second term, we will all sit back, feel self-satisfied at least to a certain degree, and relax our efforts for at least the next two years because big, bad, foul-mouthed shithead Trump will be gone for good.
