When Will Rudy Flip?

Sooner or later, Rudy’s going to run out of time and either he flips, or he does a perp walk in Georgia or D.C., or maybe both. Rudy knows all about perp walks because he actually invented this particular performance for the media when he was a federal prosecutor in New York.

It’s hard to imagine that Rudy was not only a federal prosecutor in New York, but he was the chief federal prosecutor in what is known as the Southern District of New York, which covers eight counties and was formed by the Judiciary Act of — ready? — 1789!

That’s right. Rudy ran an office which had more than 200 federal attorneys working on civil and criminal affairs and had previously been led by such luminaries as Robert Morgenthau, Henry Stimson, and Thomas Dewey. Stimson went on to serve in the Cabinets of FDR and Truman and Dewey was Governor of New York.

How in God’s name did Rudolph William Louis Giuliani go from such an exalted position to end up with a leading role in a prime-time presentation known as Stop the Steal? Actually, when Rudy stood across the street from a porno shop in the northeast corner of Philadelphia and held a press conference announcing a nationwide effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election, I thought they were making a video which would show up on HBO as a documentary or on Netflix as a comedy, or both.
