When Will the Mass Deportations Begin?

Back in 2005, my wife and I decided to drive across the Great Plains when we learned that a flight from Minneapolis to Anchorage wasn’t going to show up. So, we rented a car and began driving across Minnesota, North Dakota, and Montana, and when we got to Plentywood in Montana, we turned north to cross into Canada and begin the drive back to Detroit where we would catch a flight back home.

We got to the Canadian border and were stopped by some uniformed guy from the U.S. Immigration Service who told us that we needed to wait around while he and several other unformed functionaries searched our car.

So, we sat in some dank room within some office and then some other border cop came into the room and began asking us questions about who we were, where we were going, how come we had IDs which showed we were from Massachusetts but were driving a car with Illinois plates, and were we willing to admit that were going into Canada to buy some drugs which we could then bring back to sell in the United States?

So, here we are, a 61-year-old man with an ID which showed he was an IT Vice President of a Fortune 100 company and a 60-year-old woman (the man’s wife) who was the Senior Attending Pediatrician at the teaching campus of the state medical school being told that we were suspected of smuggling illegal drugs in or out of the United…
