Who’s Dumber? Haley or Trump?
When President Truman went to Yalta in 1945 to meet Stalin and Churchill to negotiate how the post-war world would be divvied up, a member of Truman’s delegation was James Byrnes, his then-Secretary of State. Byrnes had previously served as a member of Congress, both in the House and the Senate, as well as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
He would leave D.C. in 1950 and return to South Carolina where he then served as Governor from 1951 through 1955. His place in the state’s history is memorialized by his statue on the grounds in front of the State Capitol building in Columbia.
The ‘official reason’ why Byrnes quit the Truman Administration was that he and Truman differed over certain foreign policies following World War II. But in fact, Truman decided to get rid of Byrnes when he learned at Yalta that his Secretary of State didn’t know the difference between the Balkans and the Baltic. In negotiations with the Soviet delegation, Byrnes kept mixing them up.
We now have another idiot from South Carolina who isn’t serving as the Secretary of State but is running for President and she’s got a good shot at replacing Trump at the head of the GOP ticket in 2024. Haley is now up to 24% in New Hampshire and Trump continues a slightly downward slide at 44%. Trump’s 18-point lead is the smallest he’s recorded in any early primary state.
