Why Can’t Brady Be Like the NRA?
So, today I received my Brady membership card which will fit very nicely into my wallet next to my NRA Golden Eagles card, which now gives me a choice as to who I want to be when I’m pulled over for speeding and Mister Cop says, “License and registration, please.”
This is a rather interesting state of affairs because on the same day that I got a Brady membership card, the now-former CEO of America’s oldest civil rights organization had to show up in a New York court to respond to charges of corruption, false filings, maladministration of charitable assets -it’s quite a list.
Frankly, I never understood why the NRA maintained its legal presence in New York State ever since it was founded in 1871. New York has been the most anti-gun state of all states over the past 30 or so years, with its Governor, Andy Cuomo, having previously served as the HHS Secretary under Bill Clinton and being the author of the single, most regressive gun law of all time which, thank God, didn’t pass.
Not only does New York State have strict gun-control laws, but the state also has a not-for-profit division in the Attorney General’s office which does a more thorough examination of how charities operate in the state beyond what happens in any other state.
