Why Do People Commit Mass Shootings?
So, a couple of days ago some jerk in Las Vegas put together an AK47 assault rifle, got into his car, drove to New York City and when he was finished, he along with four other people were shot dead.
Of course, the event got all kinds of media coverage which is still going on because the office building that Shane Tamura used for his target practice is only a few blocks away from the studios of Fox, MS-NBC and CNN.
In the aftermath, what we’re getting of course are all kinds of theories about what makes someone do something so violent and harmful, with endless discussions about mental illness, social ostracism, brain damage, on and on and on.
Let me break the news to you gently, okay? The reason this kid did what he did was because he was an asshole.
Why do I say that? I’ll tell you why.
I work with a group of cops who comprise the violent crime task force of a police department of a medium-sized city in Massachusetts. These guys have all been on the job for at least ten years and have seen plenty of shootings and other really bad things.
If I were to ask them to why some kid put a loaded AK47 in his car, then drove from Vegas to New York, double-parked the car on a midtown street and proceeded to gun down a bunch of people in an office building, they…
