Why Do People Want to Live in the United States?

Story #1: Some years ago, I was sitting in the Denver airport waiting for a connecting flight from LAX to JFK. An older, black man wearing a maintenance uniform shuffled by me pushing a broom.

I said ‘hello,’ he said ‘hello,’ and I could tell from his accent that he was foreign-born.

I asked him where he came from, and he told me the name of some country in Africa which didn’t exist when I was growing up. He said he had been in this country for five years and had brought every member of his family over one by one.

I asked him how he got everyone through immigration, and he smiled, shrugged, and smiled again.

Okay, that’s story #1. Here’s story #2: Today we drove to Connecticut and spent an hour walking through Stew Leonard’s store in Newington, buying fifty or sixty bucks worth of food and eating all the free samples — the guacamole on a chip was sublime.

I have travelled through every country in Western Europe, North Africa, and the Near East. There is not a single country anywhere else in the world, particularly in those ‘shithole’ countries dumping their undesirable populations on us, which has a store like Stew Leonard’s. That kind of excess of food and the number of shoppers who can afford to pay his prices doesn’t exist anywhere else.
