Why Doesn’t Trump Choose Tim Scott?
I’m ready right now to take the short odds on a couple of Jacksons that Tim Scott will be El Trumpo’s running mate this year. Or let me put it this way. If Scott doesn’t wind up on the GOP Presidential lineup in the second slot, then Orangeman and the MAGA-GOP will be missing an opportunity to redraw the national political map to an even greater degree than Nixon redrew the map in 1968 when he promised Strom Thurmond and the other Dixiecrats that he would ‘go slow’ on civil rights.
Of course, there’s probably a good chance that the innate racism of those southern white Evangelicals who the GOP has been depending on since Billy Graham and then Jerry Falwell started making noise will make it next to impossible for the ‘Party of Lincoln’ to grasp the degree to which their connection to the population which Lincoln turned from chattel property into human beings in 1865 would give them an unbreakable hammerlock over the outcome of national elections for the next forty or fifty years.
Why do I believe that an alliance between the GOP and the African American community would work to the advantages of both? Because the reasons which made American blacks, and particularly American black voters into a solid phalanx for the electoral ministrations of the Democrat(ic) Party have long since disappeared.
