Will 2024 Be Another Election ‘Fraud?’

My parents met in 1939 at a big rally sponsored by the Young Communist League at Madison Square Garden, which was held to support the Republican Government in Spain during the Spanish Civil War.

My parents weren’t Commies, but they both came from liberal backgrounds, my mother having immigrated here with her parents from some crummy shtetl in Ukraine just before the doors slammed shut in 1923.

Most of their close friends were also Leftists, and like Mom and Dad, they moved to the center, politically speaking, as they got older, and issues like paying the mortgage on time and sending the kids to decent schools eclipsed concerns about whether the worldwide proletarian revolution would ever take place.

But there were a couple of people in that circle who remained steadfastly radical to the end of their lives. I met one of them when he was in his late 70’s, and he was still adamant about keeping the revolutionary flame alive.

I’m reminded of all this because Trump is now beginning to lay the groundwork for keeping himself relevant and newsworthy If he loses again in November, which the most recent polls seem to indicate that this is what the 2024 campaign outcome will be.
