Will Donald Trump Get Off?

Now that Justice Samuel Alito says he isn’t going to miss the opportunity to help his good friend Donald Trump get another four years to watch television all day in the Oval Office, we really do have to figure out whether a guilty verdict in the ‘hush-money’ trial will help or hurt Mister MAGA-head win the whole thing later this year.

And wouldn’t you know it, but a whole bunch of those so-called MAGA ‘influencers’ are now saying that if Trump is convicted and goes to jail, the polls will actually improve and make his November victory a sure thing.

There is absolutely nothing which supports this point of view, particularly since some random polls seem to indicate that most voters have already made up their minds about how they intend to vote, regardless of whether Trump is found guilty or innocent at some point in the next couple of days.

Whether Trump is convicted in New York or goes away free, the bottom line is that the 2024 election, like every one of the last six elections save 2008, will be decided by the final vote counts in a handful of states, and what happens in those states will largely depend on one issue and one issue only, which is whether the Democrats get out the vote.
