Will Elon Musk Make Government More Efficient?

By any chance do you remember a guy named Jack Welch? No, he wasn’t the guy who invented grape juice. He was the engineer who became CEO of General Electric in 1981 who saved one of America’s most iconic corporations from going out of business by realizing that the company couldn’t compete with all those clothes washers and dryers coming in from China and other ‘shithole’ countries (thank you Donald Trump for adding the word ‘shithole’ to the everyday vernacular) and by dint of canning a lot of employees and getting out of the home appliance business and into the credit business GE not only remained solvent but saw its market value increase from $29 billion to $75 billion over the two decades that Welch was in charge.

Welch was made into some kind of business demi-God by the media, and after retiring from GE with a financial handshake worth more than $40 million, he was immediately hired to be a spieler on one of those cable news programs where three or four so-called ‘experts’ explain how the world works to the rest of us dummies, who can’t figure things out for themselves.

Welch lasted exactly one week in his new gig. He was so fucking stupid in just about everything he said that keeping him on the show might have ended that particular network’s involvement with the news. I think the network, by the way, was CNN.
