Will President Trump Destroy Democracy?
So, now that Donald Trump has been re-elected President, up to and including getting the necessary Electoral College votes, it’s pretty tough to promote the idea that he’s some kind of Fascist but that doesn’t mean he still can’t be described as an ‘enemy’ of democracy.
Which is how he was described yesterday by Senator Chris Murphy, who believes that not only is Trump going to ‘cripple’ the democratic system from which it will never recover, but he’s already begun his assault.
The attack on democracy, according to Murphy, can be seen in a report by the House Oversight Committee, now controlled by the GOP, that calls for a criminal investigation of Liz Cheney because of her ‘collusion’ with a major witness in the January 6th TV-reality show run by the Democrats, the witness being Cassidy Hutchinson who tearfully told a national audience about how Trump and his staff chief, Mark Meadows, directed the planning of the Capitol assault.
You may recall that Cheney served as co-chair of that committee, which made the whole exercise a so-called ‘non-partisan’ affair. And Cheney had become a royal pain in the ass for the GOP House caucus both before and after January 6th, so it would only be a matter of time until scores would be settled in the usual way that scores are settled on Capitol Hill, i.e., wait until you don’t need…
