Will Trump Destroy the Liberal State?

Now that books and op-eds about Trump being such a Fascist are becoming a little stale, the liberal echo-chamber and word-processing mill can move to the next Trump-enabled thesis to scare the shit out of everyone and generate book sales or internet clicks, the argument being that his election will create the greatest crisis that the liberal state has faced since the Civil War.

In fact, those words happen to be exactly how a major spieler for The New Yorker Magazine named Adam Gopnik leads off a lengthy review of three new books on liberalism which attempt to explain what liberalism is all about and how we can defend the liberal ethos and liberal state from anti-liberals like Trump.

Gopnik doesn’t bother to explain how or why the return of Trump to the Oval Office would create a catastrophe of such epic proportions, but it’s simply taken for granted that if Trump figures out a way to steal those electoral votes which in 2020 he was unable to ‘dump in the Chicago River’ (to paraphrase the description of how Chicago’s Mayor Daley stole the 1960 election for JFK,) there’s no telling how bad things could get.

There’s no question that millions of so-called ‘illegal’ immigrants will get rounded up, herded into concentration camps, and then sent packing back to those shithole countries where they belong. If Trump listens to his good…
